June 28, 2012

Jacobs University fought off competition from renowned companies such as Porsche, Audi and Nissan Europe who had also made it to the shortlist in the category ‘Digital – Best Use of Video’. This year, Jacobs University was the only university to be nominated and the first higher education institution ever be considered for this category.

The Jacobs film, crowned with the coveted BCP Award in Gold, can be viewed at www.youtube.com/jacobsuniversity.

“We are delighted about this accolade for our film,” says Peter Wiegand, Director Corporate Communicationsat Jacobs University. “Above all the credit is due to our unique multicultural university and our great student protagonists. They not only invested a lot of their free time, but were also prepared to open up to the film team on a personal level. I’d like to thank them and the whole production team for their fantastic collaboration.”

‘Letters to the Future’ centres on four student protagonists who talk about their unusual day-to-day life at Jacobs where they study and live with students from more than 100 nations. In personal letters to the future they talk about their thoughts, wishes and goals. Professors, alumni and supporters of Jacobs University also reflect on education in the 21st century.

In aesthetic documentary style and close to the people this film is the portrait of an extraordinary university, characterized by its cultural diversity and the commitment of its unique campus community. It shows how Jacobs University delivers on its mission to educate citizens of the world who will shape the future.

The film was produced with Multivision Hamburg (Head of Production: Knut Sodemann) under the direction of Thorsten Kirves. Peter Wiegand developed the film concept and oversaw the editorial coordination. 'Letters to the Future' was made in 2011 on the occasion of Jacobs University’s 10th anniversary.
